Hi, I'm Jon. I knew at the age of 12 that I wanted to be a designer. In high school, they created a class called Independant Computer Graphics because after I took the first two semesters of 1 and 2, I wanted to take more and that was all that was offered at the time. Thanks to that I spent the next 6 semesters mostly designing graphics to put onto a shirt via silk screen, with some old school photography thrown in there as well.
I then went on to Purdue University to major in Computer Graphics, with a minor in Pyschology because I have always been fascinated with how people perceive and interact with the world around them. Although a gentleman by the name of Don Normal created the title User Experience Architect at Apple, this was not a common job title and certainly not a degree program in 2001 when I unknowingly chose that path. My program covered a lot: raster image editing, vector illustration, 3D Animation, video editing, motion graphics, and finally web design and development.
After college I had to decide what direction to take, my first job offer was for a 3D artist position in the aviation industry. I decided to accept a different offer as the Graphics Coordinator for a small real estate company because I liked that it seemed more collaborative and I also had an interest in investing with real estate.
After that company fell victim to the downturn in 2008 I was hired by an eLearning company to create graphics and animations for a variety of clients. This company also shut its doors in 2010. Luckily for me it's largest client Mori Seiki still had work to be done so they contracted with a handful of former workers to finish the job for a couple of months.
I was then hired by IU Health to bring their workforce development to the 21st century. They were at the time just using Powerpoints for all of their education. I have learned a lot in my 8 years there. Getting to work with a lot of leaders all over the organization as well as OD consultants have taught me a lot about people and I have matured a great deal during that time through emotional intelligence content and a lot of self evaluation. I'm a contrarian to the core which makes me question everything. This has served me well in my career.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and our newborn son Leo, staying in shape, and going to the beach. I also spend a lot of time studying because I have a lot of goals I want to accomplish.
